There are three simple ways, that you can do right now, that will secure your WordPress website.
1. Strong Username and Password
The first thing is have a strong user name and passwords for your login. It is very important that you do this, because using the standard admin user name is not very good.
You need to create something that’s a little bit more strong using numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters and also using special characters. With regards to the password, make it at least a minimum of 12 characters in length, using numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters and also special characters like eg #/.! etc. That’s the first thing you can do right now.
2. Consistently Update Plugins, Themes and WordPress Software Version
The second thing is making sure that you are continuously updating your plugins, your themes and the WordPress version itself. This is very, very important. If you do not do this, you will get hacked. It is a guarantee. I guarantee that. Make sure that your WordPress software is up to date.
3. Backup Your Website
This third thing is to make backups of your website. Have a daily database and at least a weekly [inaudible 00:01:23] and, more importantly, have those backups stored on a offsite server, something like Google Drive or Amazon or even, if you do it manually, you can download it to your computer. This is very important. If your site gets hacked, then your backups, if they’re getting backed up to the server that your website is on, they can become vulnerable. To recap, the three things, secure user name and password, the second one is to update your plugins, themes and WordPress version when they become available, and the third thing is to make sure that you have backups of your website.
